How this snapshot is compiled

Price compilation methodology

The WSF Country Price Snapshot is an indicative retail reference compiled from publicly available retail market data, trade intelligence sources, and WSF-verified regional inputs. It is not sourced from Amazon and does not use scraped pricing.

Retail only

All prices reflect consumer retail pricing for saffron threads — not wholesale, farm gate, or auction values. Retail prices are typically 3–10× farm gate depending on the supply chain.

Threads, not powder

Only stigma thread products are tracked. Powdered saffron, blends, and saffron-flavoured products are excluded as they carry a high adulteration risk and cannot be accurately graded without laboratory analysis.

Grade noted where known

Where the dominant retail grade for a country is known — Super Negin, Sargol, Kozani PDO, La Mancha PDO, Kashmiri GI — it is noted. PDO and GI designations carry formal regulatory protection in their country of origin.

Currency normalised to USD

All prices are converted to US dollars per gram using indicative exchange rates. Local prices in EUR, GBP, AED, INR, and other currencies are normalised at time of data entry.

Producing vs importing

Countries are classified as producers (where commercial saffron cultivation occurs) or importers (where saffron is traded and retailed but not grown at scale). Importer retail prices reflect supply chain margins, duty, and import costs.

Indicative — not financial advice

This snapshot is a transparency and education tool. It is not a commodity exchange, not a guarantee of market value, and not financial advice. Prices are indicative and may not reflect any specific transaction or lot.
